DEGREE COURSES AND EXAMINATIONS
1. (a) In the first (i.e. Preliminary) year of study, candidates attend introductory
courses in the subjects which they wish to read in later years and also a Foundation/Communication skills Course

2. (b) There will be a Preliminary Examination at the end of the First Year of Study.

3. (a) Candidates studying for a General Degree must spend two years after passing
the Intermediate Examination before attempting the Final Examination.
There shall be such examinations in the penultimate year of the General Degree Course as the appropriate Faculty Board may prescribe.
(b) Candidates studying for an Honours Degree must spend at least three years after
passing Intermediate Examination before taking Final Examination and must pass any other qualifying Examination which may be prescribed.
The final selection of candidates for the Honours School shall not be made before the end of the first year after they have passed the Intermediate Examination,
i.e. the Qualifying Year. The Final Honours Examination may be conducted in two parts and must be passed not more than four years after passing the Intermediate Examination.
Thus progression for a candidate reading for an Honours Degree will normally be as follows: after passing the Intermediate Examination:
Qualifying Year, Final Honours I Year, Final Honours II Year.
(c) The number and combination of subjects offered by candidates for each course shall be in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Faculty.
(d) In addition to Honours Schools in single subjects, Joint Honours Schools may also be set up by the Faculties.

4. With the approval of the appropriate Faculty Board a candidate may transfer from the General degree Course to the Honours Degree course of vice versa.

5. Candidates who fail in the Final Honours Examination shall not be allowed to re-sit the examination except with the approval of Senate on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.

6. If a candidate is prevented by illness from attempting all the papers of the Final Honours Examination he shall, if the Board of Examiners so recommend,
be deemed to have passed the examination and shall be awarded an aerostat Degree.

7. Candidates who posses a minimum of two passes in subjects at the GCE `Advanced Level' (or its equivalent) or
higher qualification on admission may be exempted from study and examination for such parts of the Degree Course as Senate may decide on the
recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Board.

8. Candidates are assessed on the following basis of examination purposes:-
Continuous Assessment . . . . 30%
Comprehensive Examination . . . . 70%



TYPES OF DEGREES
1. The Degree which is awarded shall be appropriate to the Faculty from which the candidate graduated, e.g. BA, BSc, BEng, BSocs.Sci.)
2. The names of successful candidates for the General Degree shall be arranged in three divisions.
3. The Honours Degree shall be classified, viz: First Class, Second Class (Upper and Lower Divisions) and Third Class.
Candidates who fall below the standard required for a Third Class may be awarded a "Recommendation to Pass".


Students seeking admission to the College are required to complete forms of application which may be obtained from the
Registry, and which may be returned along with the supporting documents not later than the January in the year in which admission is sought.
