History

History courses are offered at honours and general degree levels (about 36 in all). The number of students taking each course varies by year and by choice. Figures indicated against the courses are average. The under-listed are a selection from the curriculum.

Linguistics

The department of Linguistics offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in almost all aspects of linguistics.

The undergraduate programme begins in the intermediate year. Students admitted into this programme are of two categories.

NORMAL ENTRY

They should have passed the preliminary year and studied English and or French apart from their other courses.

SPECIAL ENTRY

To the intermediate year.

Students in this category should have at least 5 credits at the G.C.E. 'O' level with 4 0r better in English language and Literature. A credit in French is an advantage. A credit in Mathematics, a pass in geography and also a D or better in English Language or French in the GCE 'A' level. In the undergraduate classes, the department offers courses in:
